Operation Equality O'Clock
Have you heard of "craftivism"? It's an advocacy technique that involves advocates creating/crafting to share a specific message. A famous example was handkerchiefs embroidered with "don't blow it" handed to board members before a meeting. The AIDS quilt in the 90s is another famous example of craftivism.
Join Operation Equality O’clock to uplift the 28th Amendment (Equal Rights) in a fun and crafty way. We have chosen clocks as our craftivism medium since women and the LGBTQ+ community have sought equality since the beginning of time. It is well past time for our Constitution to include all of us.
For the crafty types, this is an opportunity to cross-stitch, paint, weave or whittle. For the less artsy types, use a sharpie or paint pen to write on the face of a cheap alarm clock. Links for instructions and ideas are at the bottom of this post.
Be creative with your clock!
We welcome fiber arts, cross-stitch, woodworking, pottery, found art, visual art, or whatever medium you choose to illustrate the message "no deadlines on equality" or "time to fix our Constitution." You are limited only by your imagination and size you want to ship!
Using pictures of 100 clocks for 100 Senators, we will create an outdoor, 50 state scavenger hunt in Washington, DC. After a state has been found the clock will be sent to the Senators from that state along with FAQs and messages from constituents.
Clocks will also be gifted to members of the House of Representatives.
Call on your friends / neighbors / club to join your fun!
